It was Mundi who generously opened the door for me into that exclusive club that is high couture fashion. He is handier than the rest of the industry natives and there is general agreement amongst the vogue types that Mundi has the rare ability to bombshell even the most cynical of the flock. His new design, Fish and the Lion Man, is an emphatic full-length line and a welcome surprise to industry insiders. It has been introduced to the catwalk and its enthusiastic catwalkers, and is finally available in a ready-to-wear format for the rest of us. Its uncanny style and elegance makes the propensities of its wearer obvious to the human eye. The desire to be at the forefront of changes in mode becomes absolute, and personal appearance "within" the garment has become a key - if not THE key - ingredient of the full-length line.

The Mundis (I like to call his garments the Mundis) are shaking the world of faithful followers of fashion, perhaps because the elegance of the ready-to-wear full-length line is somewhat avant-garde? I would love to see some of the best looking women of our days put on his garments. The Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen would look lovely in a sweater by Mundi, and I am confident it would match her flip-flops. And I would sell my soul to old Beelzebub himself to be able to see Kate Moss stomping down the catwalk in her devil-may-care manner wearing nothing but Mundi's underwear.
The chic-ness that prevails in today's world often entails enthusiastic but short-lived acceptance, but not the Mundis! The new full-length line is practically adornment-free and is timelessly stylish and pleasing to the eye - and the lower body. The preferred manner of wearing the pieces of clothing (the Mundis) is extremely personal, as it affects the behavior of its wearer and his/her way of life at a given time and that is what makes the garment worth buying. Mundi's items of clothing affect the kids like no other items I know of, like the drug of choice does for the selfish brain (or so I'm told). The conventions of fads adopted by polite society have been turned upside down without any feelings being hurt, although you never know what Donatella Versace will think. People of all fashions should find in this craze something to their liking, even the unsightly and the hideous. The extravagant and the thrifty, the spendthrift homosexuals and the frugal brood of the hood, go hand in hand in their say-so. I say so.

Do you have anything ostentatious in mind for collections down the road?

Whow! I didn't know what that word meat "ostentation" so I looked it up in the dictionary and this is what I got out: "pretentious and vulgar display, esp. wealth and luxury, intend to impress or attract notice"......?

That just arouse more questions in my head. I´m just going to assume it means something negative. By that said, yes I think a lot of collections are being made by people who are attracted to the fashion lifestyle, and therefore they want to be apart of it, and they probably could if they had there minds were in the right place. These kind of people can be found in every design ore art industry there is. Basically they love the party´s and there design is just made to fit in with the crowd they look most up to. But as Iv´e got to notice now I've met more and more people who really mean what they are doing, not to please anything but their greed of doing something new, better, cooler, sexier ore perhaps uglier designs that no one has ever thought of and still it was laying on the table for all this time. And that I think puts heart and the very important "balls" into there work.

MOMS is a group composed of three artists, two Icelanders named Mundi and Morri and an American named Schuyler Jack Maehl. Mundi and Morri enrolled in the Icelandic Academy of Arts in August 2005. In October they met Schuyler through a fellow student. Soon after Schuyler arrived in Iceland he became an apprentice of the Norwegian painter Odd Nerdrum, who lived and worked in Reykjavík at the time. Mundi, Morri and Schuyler worked together on various projects after the New Year including a recording session in an abandoned US army location in Iceland. They were also a part of the winning team in Iceland’s preliminary Eurovision song contest with the Euro-Trash star Silvia Night. They designed part of the interior of a Night club in down town Reykjavík. The biggest project during this time was the graphic design and PR for a stage art festival in Reykjavík called Artfart. For example, as a part of this project they hung a bicycle over the main shoping street in Reytkjavík with helium balloons attached to it. The piece attracted a lot of attention and is still up there. The balloons have been replaced by new ones due to the immense support from the Reykjavík Fire Department. The MOMS name was, in fact, first initiated by the threesome in relations with the Arfart festival. It is simply their initials arranged in a certain way. - In June 2006 MOMS was invited to participate in an exhibition and performance by the Austrian artist group Gelitin in Gallerý Kling&Bang. The performance was a success. Afterwards Gelitin and MOMS decided to collaborate on a book about the performance. - In the beginning of the year 2007 MOMS traveled with Gelitin to New York to have a “Bunter Abend” at Deitch Projects following the Jason Schmidt book premier, “Artists”. - In June 2007 MOMS travelled with Gelitin and friends to Venice, Italy to partitipate in the “Hamsterwheel” at the Arsenale. MOMS tried to help Gelitin build a gigantic tree sculpture. However, they soon started to think only of themselves and built a MOMS boat. This is how the performance “Hvar er “skipperinn” came to be. - In the Summer of 2007 Schuyler returned to America but Mundi and Morri have continued to do some artsy stuff in Iceland. - Mundi and Morri took part in the preparation and organization of an art event called DÍÓNÝSÍA in winter 2006-2007 with only a few other artists. The plan was to send young Reykjavík based artist to the countryside, for ten days in July, to work with inhabitants of Icelands least populated towns. The intention was to break down boundaries between two very different groups of people, young artsy kids and country folks. Mundi and Morri also wanted to partitipate in DÍÓNÍSÍA and travelled to Grundarfjörður with three of their friends to begin building a Pizza Place. Vina-Pizza opened two days later and curious pizza hungry locals came out to visit. Mundi and Morri were responcible for most of the graphic design of DÍÓNÍSÍA. - Mundi and Morri organized the “Brakarí” exhibition with four other artists during the L.U.N.G.A young arts festival at art town, Seyðisfjörður. There Mundi and Morri exhibited MOMS – Overkill drawings. - In late August, Mundi did one of the most flambouyant fashion shows in Icelandic history when he introduced his latest collection of Mundi Design. Morri, amongst loads of Mundis friends, helped to make it a successful evening. Mundi’s fashion design will be on display at Paris Fashion Week in October, the same week MOMS will be in Ireland.
